Maryland's #1 family directory - activities, dining, music, recipes, resources and more. Everything your family needs, all in one place.
I'll never forget the Saturday morning that sparked FunLand Maryland. My three kids were bouncing off the walls with energy, I had exactly four hours before their afternoon soccer games, and I desperately needed to find something to tire them out. After spending 45 minutes clicking through county parks websites, scrolling endless Facebook mom groups, and checking three different event calendars, I finally found a free nature program at a state park 20 minutes away. We made it with five minutes to spare. The kids had an amazing time learning about Chesapeake Bay ecosystems, burned off all that energy, and I thought: "Why did finding this have to be so hard?"
That frustration became FunLand Maryland. As a Frederick County mom who's spent the last eight years exploring every corner of this state with my family, I knew Maryland deserved better than scattered information across dozens of outdated websites. Maryland has everything a family could want. Wild ponies at Assateague Island. Apple orchards in Carroll County. Baltimore's incredible National Aquarium. Hidden hiking trails in Catoctin Mountain. But finding it all? That was the problem.
Living in Frederick County puts us right in the heart of Maryland's incredible diversity. Within an hour's drive, we can be crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay, hiking mountain trails in Garrett County, exploring historic battlefields, catching free concerts at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. I've watched my kids pet alpacas at Howard County farms, pick their own strawberries in Anne Arundel, learn to kayak on the Potomac, and discover their love of history at Maryland's incredible living history museums - all without breaking the bank.
What amazes me most about Maryland is how much is completely free. We've spent entire weekends at state parks with pristine beaches. We've attended summer concert series that don't cost a penny. We've discovered farmers markets in every county where local farmers have become our kids' favorite people. Maryland families don't need expensive theme park tickets to create unforgettable memories - we just need to know where to look.
I built FunLand Maryland to be the resource I wish I had eight years ago when my oldest was a toddler. Every listing is personally researched and verified. I check addresses, confirm hours, call businesses to make sure they're actually kid-friendly, and update seasonal information every week. When you see a restaurant recommended here, it's because I've either taken my own family there or thoroughly researched it with actual Maryland parents who've visited.
The site covers all 24 Maryland counties plus Washington DC because I refuse to let rural families feel left out. Whether you're in Montgomery County or Garrett County, your family deserves to know about the activities, restaurants, and events near you. I've personally driven to every corner of this state to make sure nothing is missing. Ocean City's boardwalk. Deep Creek Lake. Southern Maryland. The Eastern Shore watermen towns. It's all here.
Unlike generic travel sites or automated directories, FunLand Maryland comes from real family experience. When I recommend a crab house, it's because we've cracked crabs there on a Saturday afternoon and my kids still talk about it. When I list a U-pick farm, it's because we've spent messy, wonderful mornings there filling buckets with strawberries. When I include a free museum, it's because we've tested whether it actually holds a five-year-old's attention (spoiler: Maryland has some incredible free museums that absolutely do).
My goal is simple: save you the 45 minutes I spent that Saturday morning. Help you discover the Maryland adventures your family will remember forever. Whether you need a rainy day activity, a budget-friendly weekend plan, or the best crab cake in your county, FunLand Maryland has you covered. The information here comes from a fellow Maryland parent who's been exactly where you are.
